In Vancouver, throngs of people, many of them clad in red and white and waving the maple leaf flag, flocked to the downtown waterfront near Canada Place. Renamed Canada Together and planned with the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, the celebration highlights a reconciliation theme and features opportunities to learn more about Indigenous and other cultures that make up Canadian society, said organizers.
On the schedule: Live musical performances, exhibits, family-friendly entertainers and activities, and food trucks. Missing this year will be the night-time fireworks show over Burrard Inlet, which was cancelled due to security costs. Taking centre stage will be musical performances slated for the entire day, with Canadian rock bad Arkells as the headliner.
The family made it a point to dress up in something red and white, and stuck a Canadian flag on their stroller. In Richmond, the 75th annual Salmon Festival got underway in historic Steveston Village, its first in-person celebration since the pandemic.
