On a clear day, this is an incredible spot to watch the sunset! Tofino is one of the best places to visit on Vancouver Island and to top it all off, they have some of the best restaurants, too! Some of our personal favorites included Tacofino an iconic taco food truck with outdoor seating and Rhino Coffee and Donuts.
However, there are so many more restaurants in Tofino that we loved, here are just some of them below…. Campbell River is located on the north-eastern side of Vancouver Island , along the edge of the Discovery Passage waterway. Known for its iconic Tyee fishing spots and abundant outdoor activities this is a great spot for nature lovers of all ages. Stay awhile in Campbell River for their unique local eateries like Beach Fire Brewing with crazy Tuesday experimental brews!
They are also known for being close to nature, which means you can grab brunch in town and be out on the trails just a half-hour later! No matter how many days you choose to stay, Campbell River is a must-stop destination on your Vancouver Island trip! Elk Falls provides a fun opportunity for the whole family to get outside.
With just a 2-kilometer trail you can experience epic views of Elk Falls from the platforms, as well as walk across the suspension bridge to view the powerful meter drop.
Come for the short trail to the falls, or stick around longer to take an extended hike 6 kilometers farther down the river for more magical river views. Another amazing activity to do along your Vancouver Island Road Trip is to discover the many nearby waterfalls in Strathcona Provincial Park.
One of the easiest waterfalls to reach is Myra Falls, a 1-kilometer out-and-back trail with a killer view of this multi-tiered falls. Come to the two viewpoints upper and lower and explore around the rocks to discover even more places to view the falls from up close! Love chasing waterfalls? Here are some other waterfalls on Vancouver Island to explore! This unique resort in Campbell River offers the luxury of oceanside views combined with the feeling of being tucked away in the woods.
Berty and I stayed at their room called the Beach House , which is a converted studio with unobstructed views of the water, specifically over Discovery Passage. It was an incredible place to watch the sunrise , as well as feel rejuvenated and restored for a new day of adventure ahead!
Driving from Campbell River back to Victoria, BC, here are some stops you should check out on your drive…. Before leaving Campbell River, make sure to watch the sunrise from Discovery Pier.
This historic pier is meters long, with plenty of unobstructed views of Discovery Passage and Quadra Island across the water. Grab some coffee at the Java Shack beforehand, and take a walking tour of the pier before you start your trip south to Victoria. The hike to the trestle is short but extremely steep , so be prepared to take plenty of breaks on the way up. Feel free to take photos from the sides, though! Come to stretch your legs during your Vancouver Island Road Trip!
Not ready to leave Vancouver Island? If you want to even further customize your trip or take some side trips along the way, here are more suggestions for making your Vancouver Island Road Trip unique to you! Ready to explore the northern Vancouver Island? Cape Scott Provincial Park and Port Hardy are some of the most remote communities and parks you can visit on the Island, which brings a lot more opportunity to see wildlife and more space to yourself.
The backpacking trip of all backpacking trips is hands down on The West Coast Trail. This day backpacking trip is kilometers along the coast in the Pacific Rim National Park. Permits are required, children are not allowed, and you are strongly encouraged to be an experienced backpacker.
From hand-carts across raging rivers, root-crossed trails, several ladders, and more, this is one of the most exciting and daunting backpacking trips out there. Thirty minutes south of Tofino is the opposite side of the peninsula — a small town called Ucluelet. Expect amazing views of craggy shores and views of the Broken Group Islands to the south, and one of the longest beaches in the area, aptly named Long Beach for lots of different activity choices. This condensed version of a Vancouver Island Road Trip can be accomplished in days, or you can spend an entire week just on this route, spending a lot of time in each area!
Wondering if you can see all these iconic landmarks in just a one week Vancouver Island Road Trip? Read below to find your perfect itinerary! Highlights: Quick access beaches, short hikes, easy-to-reach locations just off the highway. Five days in Vancouver Island is a perfect way to see all the highlights on a quick Vancouver Island road trip.
Prepare either for lots of time spent in the car , OR prioritizing a few places and saving some Vancouver Island destinations for another trip.

They always combined their visits with concerts at the Community Hall which have been consistently well attended by Denman Islanders. But now the secret is out. From Aug. The series is centred around the world of the French composer Maurice Ravel. Gleusteen and Ordronneau will be joined.
The first Presentation Concert on Aug. The final concert entitled Ravel ClassicJazz is also an afternoon concert beginning at on Sunday, Aug. Unlike other types of art shows this one is entirely focused on showcasing the works of artists who are either painters or sculptors. One of the other unique aspects about this show is that it is open to Vancouver Island artists working at all levels of experience. From seasoned artists to those just beginning on their creative journey the show covers a broad spectrum of styles and mediums.
Visitors to the show will find works that are designed around abstract themes, contemporary works highlight current trends, impressionism, expressionism and realism which are perennial favourites round off one of the best showcases of art on the Island. Just like some of the artists found in the history books, there are artists who have gone from realism to painting abstract while others have evolved from contemporary to representational. Then there is the constant experimentation with new mediums, techniques and subject matter.
Over the years there have been a few constants, some of the artists have been coming back each year since day one. This support has allowed the show to remain selfsustaining without asking for grants or other means of financial support.
The entire show is organized by participating artists and all of the expenses are shared by each artist who pays a fee for a booth space. The booths are another interesting feature of the show because with each artist setting up their own display space, it provides visitors with the opportunity to go to dozens of mini art galleries all located in one area. Marina Park in Comox is an ideal location for an out-. The artists will be on site from 10 a. For further information about the Originals Only Art Show visit the website at www.

How to acclimate pets to long car trips Short jaunts in the car can be a special treat for pets who spend the majority of their time at home. Although car trips sometimes mean appointments at the vet, frequently such trips involve visits to family members or opportunities to romp and socialize in the park.
Pets that may be perfectly fine on short trips may not be as amenable to longer excursions. Animals can experience motion sickness or stress from being in a moving vehicle, and this can re-. Acclimating pets to the car in a series of steps is recommended. The first may be sitting inside a parked vehicle with your pet. Owners can then gradually progress to short trips around the neighbourhood, all the while paying attention to pets to see how they are responding to time in the car.
Keep the temperature in. Owners can reward pets who survive long trips by choosing a final destination that pets will find fun. If you are always putting the cat or dog in the car to go to the vet or groomer, your pet may associate the car with bad experiences and never truly adapt to trips in the car.
When travelling, pets must be properly secured in a vehicle to prevent injury to drivers, their passengers and even the pet. Health comes in 2 ways, physical and emotional. This is the magic time when you can get your puppy and kitten to accept new sounds and experiences without being scared. Save them from emotional and physical trauma. Get them into a kindergarten play class we have.
De-worm often schedule on our website. Vet check for fleas, ear mites, heart murmurs, cleft palates, hernias and viruses at 6 weeks old. Budget for food and preventive care exams. Emergencies are another creature all together. Your 1st puppy and kitten exam is complimentary. If a dog or cat finds comfort in a crate, use that to secure the animal during the ride.
Otherwise, dog seatbelts and other restraint systems are helpful. Pets should ride in the back seat where they will be most safe and less likely to distract drivers. Drivers should resist the urge to have small pets sit on their lap while driving. As a pet gradually acclimates to longer trips, vary the route and subject pets to different sights, sounds and smells.
Animals that are particularly skittish or simply do not do well in the car should not be. Veterinarians can prescribe tranquilizers or motion sickness medication to make car rides tolerable.
Pet owners often enjoy. But not all companion animals are fans of riding in cars, and they may need some practice before they get used to life on the road. I am fostering two cats. Yesterday I walked into the bedroom and Flora, the grey tabby kitten, was hanging from the top of the curtains.
When she saw me, she launched herself onto the top of the dresser, scattering picture frames, bracelets and a bottle of perfume. Then she careened around the bed in an ecstasy of fun and kitten craziness and disappeared into the closet. Her second name could be Decorum. And of course, we are happy that they do, for kittens abound in spring and summer: bouncy little furballs of mischief and knockdown cuteness. Luckily, there are many people here in the valley who choose to take home a cat whose personality has already been formed.
Some adult cats are every bit as playful as their kitten. Others prefer long naps, watching computer screens and know not to walk on the keyboard , or like to help in the garden. All this you can learn beforehand. Kittens are not quite as pliable as people think.
They come with their own personalities, which become very apparent as they grow up. Of course, all animals can become fearful or aggressive if they are mistreated, and affectionate and calm if they are loved and handled gently. But … not always. They have their own minds and if you. Once they settle in to their new digs, they form a bond with their new owners that is deep and long lasting.
They know they are safe once again. We combine leading edge techniques using state of the art equipment along with a holistic compassionate approach. You get the benefit of a complete teeth cleaning without the cost or stress of anesthetic. This service is covered under most pet insurance plans.
Adult cats, however, have ironed out the kinks and are what they seem. This may be fanciful on my part, but I swear abandoned or homeless cats are grateful for a second chance.

They are the norm for those anglers fishing our river systems. Pinks are feisty fighters that give a good account of themselves on light tackle. Pinks are among the first salmon to hit our beaches before going up their natal streams. Savvy beach anglers start patrolling the beaches early in the morning on a receding tide for tell-tale signs of schools of migrating pinks swimming in the shallows.
In calm waters you look for the bow wave ahead of a moving school of fish, or locate them by observing jumpers along the beach. They create a dream situation for casters of all types, especially fly fishers who cast their fly just ahead of the moving school of fish and wait for the pulse of a take — it is the stuff of legends. In a year of low water, schooling pinks off their natal streams are easy targets for wading anglers and harbour seals.
With the current low water situation the fish may be forced to stay off the mouths of home streams until seasonal rains bring life-saving waters, creating passages for the waiting salmon to enter their natal rivers to complete their spawning run.
Pink salmon are not large by salmon standards, they average three to four pounds with occasional individuals weighing in at eight or nine pounds. In many respects they are the perfect one-meal fish for a family. They smoke well and are excellent fish for canning. Properly handled they are nice fish for freezing in small family packages,. There are tens of thousands of pink salmon throughout the system.
I saw a photograph of the pool at the diversion dam and it was so full of fish you could almost walk across the water on the backs of fish. I spoke to a happy camper who had got up early in the morning, drove up to the Campbell and caught. In the Comox Valley there are many seniors who use small portions when freezing fish and these small tasty salmon make excellent. For anglers who troll pinks, they are normally in the upper portion of the water column at about 50 feet, plus or minus.
Their pale pink flesh just plain has an excellent flavour making them popular choices for barbecuing, baking, frying or any other way you choose to utilize this bonanza of pink salmon.
They also make excellent fish. The pink flies used in fishing sockeye will work well fished about 25 to 30 inches behind red or green flashers. Small pink hoochies, lures, streamers, bucktails are successful choices when starting to fish these tasty fish. Young people. A pair of old running shoes for the beach, some shorts and sunscreen and you are ready to go fishing. No boat or expensive wading gear is needed for summer salmon. During the season the Campbell River system had an unusually large run of pink salmon.
The run of pinks is significantly larger than the run of last year. The run is so large that they have opened the upper section of the. As we spoke he was getting them ready for his camp smoker as a special BC Day treat. For campers in the Oyster River and Black Creek area the mouth of the Oyster is producing good catches from the beach.
Beaches at Cape Lazo and the approaches to the Puntledge including Royston are good places to take schooling pinks. The hot dry weather will keep them near the beaches.
